One Touch Switch: how switching broadband works now

Since the One Touch Switch process launched in 2024, changing broadband provider is far simpler: you only contact your new provider, give your address and current provider, and they arrange the whole switch — often within a day. Your current provider automatically sends you details of any exit fees, and you don’t pay for the old service beyond the switch date.

Switching broadband used to mean awkward calls to a provider trying to talk you out of leaving. Not any more. Here’s how it works now.

One contact, not two

Under One Touch Switch, you only deal with your new provider. You give them a few details — your address and who your current provider is — and they handle the rest. You don’t need to call your old provider to cancel.

You’re told about exit fees automatically

Once a switch starts, your current provider automatically sends you the important details, including:

  • any early-termination (exit) charges you’d have to pay, and
  • how the switch affects any other services you have with them.

So you can decide with the full picture in front of you. Estimate any charge first with our exit fee calculator.

It’s quick — often a day

Where it’s technically possible, the switch happens in as little as one day, on a date you choose. And you won’t pay for the old service beyond the switch date — no more double-paying during a notice period.

Should you switch at all?

Switching is easy, but whether it’s worth it depends on your contract. Use our should I switch checker, and if you’re looking to save, see how to lower your broadband bill.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to contact my old provider to switch broadband?

No. Under One Touch Switch you only contact your new provider. They arrange the switch and your old provider is notified automatically — you don’t need to call them to cancel.

How long does switching broadband take?

Where it’s technically possible, the switch can happen in as little as one day. Your new provider coordinates it for your chosen date to keep any gap to a minimum.

Will I be told about exit fees before I switch?

Yes. When you start a switch, your current provider automatically sends you key information, including any early-termination charges and how the switch affects other services, so you can decide before going ahead.
