Is your ping good enough for gaming and calls?

Enter your ping (and optionally jitter and packet loss) and we’ll tell you — instantly — whether it’s good enough for gaming, video calls and everyday use, plus how to lower it. Under ~20 ms is excellent, under 50 ms is good, and over 100 ms starts to feel laggy. It all runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good ping for gaming?

For online gaming, a ping under about 20 ms is excellent and under 50 ms is good. Between 50 and 100 ms is playable but you may notice lag in fast-paced games; above 100 ms it starts to feel sluggish. Low, steady ping matters more than raw download speed.

What’s the difference between ping, jitter and packet loss?

Ping is how long data takes to make a round trip (latency). Jitter is how much that ping varies from moment to moment — high jitter makes calls and games stutter. Packet loss is the share of data that never arrives, which causes freezes and dropouts. All three matter for real-time use.

Why is my ping so high?

Common causes are Wi-Fi instead of a wired connection, other devices using the connection heavily, an overloaded or distant server, or a line fault. Testing on Ethernet with other traffic paused is the best way to see your true latency.

Does higher broadband speed lower ping?

Not really. Ping is about latency, not bandwidth, so a faster plan won’t necessarily reduce it. A wired connection, less congestion and a healthy line do far more for ping than extra download speed.
