Frequently asked questions
How do I work out what’s wrong with my internet?
Start with the one question that splits the problem in half: is nothing working at all, or is it working but badly? Nothing at all points to an outage or your router. Working-but-slow points at Wi-Fi, your line, or congestion — and testing on a device plugged in with an Ethernet cable tells you which. This page asks you at most two questions and sends you to the tool that handles your case.
Is my internet problem my provider’s fault or mine?
A quick rule of thumb: if a wired device is fine and only Wi-Fi is bad, it is your home setup. If a wired device is also bad and there is no known outage, it is more likely your line or router, which is your provider’s to fix. If nothing works at all, check for an outage before troubleshooting anything at home.
What should I check first when the internet stops working?
Check whether it is only you. Look at your router’s lights, check your provider’s official status page from mobile data, and ask a neighbour on the same provider. If it is an area outage there is nothing to fix at home — but do report it, because a total loss of service that is not fixed within two full working days earns automatic compensation.
Does this send my answers anywhere?
No. Every question and answer stays in your browser — nothing about your connection, address or usage is sent to us or to anyone else.
