Is Sky broadband down?
Check Sky’s official service status first — it’s linked below and it’s the only source that actually knows. If Sky shows no fault, the problem is probably in your home, and the 60-second check below tells you which. If it is Sky’s fault and a total loss of service isn’t fixed 2 full working days after you report it, you’re owed £10.34 a day automatically.

1. Check Sky’s official status page
This is Sky’s own page, and the only one that actually knows what their network is doing:
Sky — Help for Sky Broadband & Talk | Service Status — Status page →
Have ready: Your Sky Talk phone number, including the area code — that is what the page asks for, not a sign-in.
Open it on mobile data, not your broadband — that’s the bit that’s broken. Link last checked 2026-08-02.
2. Is it Sky, or is it you? The 60-second check
-
Check whether it’s everything or one device
If one phone or laptop is offline and everything else works, it isn’t an outage — it’s that device.
-
Look at your router’s lights
A red, off or flashing broadband light says the line itself is down. Steady lights with no internet usually points upstream, at your provider.
-
Check Sky’s official status page
Your Sky Talk phone number, including the area code — that is what the page asks for, not a sign-in. Do it from mobile data — your broadband is the thing that’s broken.
-
Ask a neighbour on the same provider
This is faster and more reliable than any website. If they’re down too, it’s an area fault and there is nothing to fix at home.
-
Restart the router once — properly
Power it off for a full minute, then allow up to ten minutes to resync. Restarting it repeatedly during that window is the most common thing that keeps it broken.
-
Report it, and note the time
The compensation clock starts when you report the fault, not when it broke. Get a fault reference.
→ Run the full outage checker — three taps, and it tells you which of the two it is.
3. What you’re owed while it’s broken
Sky (including NOW Broadband) is one of the providers signed up to Ofcom’s automatic compensation scheme. You should not have to claim.
- £10.34 per calendar day once a total loss of service has gone unfixed for 2 full working days after you report it.
- £32.31 for a missed engineer appointment, or one cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice.
- Credited to your bill within 30 calendar days — automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is Sky broadband down right now?
We don’t publish a live status feed, and no free, lawful one exists for UK providers — so anyone claiming real-time Sky outage data is guessing or crowdsourcing it. The reliable answer comes from Sky’s own service status page, linked at the top of this page, plus the 60-second check below to tell an area outage apart from a fault in your own home.
How do I check if Sky is down in my area?
Open Sky’s official status page from your mobile data. Your Sky Talk phone number, including the area code — that is what the page asks for, not a sign-in. Then confirm it with a neighbour on the same provider — if they’re down too, it’s an area fault rather than your kit.
What compensation do I get if Sky broadband is down?
Sky (including NOW Broadband) is signed up to Ofcom’s automatic compensation scheme. If a total loss of service still isn’t fixed 2 full working days after you report it, you get £10.34 for each calendar day it stays broken, and £32.31 for a missed or late-cancelled engineer appointment. It should be credited to your bill within 30 calendar days without you having to claim — but the clock starts when you report the fault, so report it today.
Sky is down — how do I get online in the meantime?
Tether from your phone. On iPhone that’s Settings, then Personal Hotspot; on Android it’s usually Settings, Network and internet, Hotspot and tethering. Keep an eye on your data allowance — video calls and cloud backup will eat it fast.
Should I restart my router if Sky has an outage?
Once, and then leave it alone. If the provider has confirmed an area fault there is nothing at your end to fix, and repeatedly power-cycling the router during a resync is the most common way people keep themselves offline for longer.
