Vodafone router lights meaning

It depends which hub you have, because Vodafone uses two different colour schemes. On the Vodafone WiFi Hub and the Vox 2.5, white is healthy and red is a problem — except on the Vox 2.5’s power light, where red simply means the power is on. On the Ultra Hub and the Power Hub, green is healthy, amber means Wi-Fi has been switched off, and red means a fault. Flashing usually means the hub is still trying, so give it five minutes before you act.

Vodafone WiFi Hub

The Vodafone WiFi Hub has five separate lights — Power, Internet, Phone, Mobile and WiFi — so the colour on its own does not tell you much. Check which light is showing it first. White is the healthy colour on this hub.

  • Power light: solid white

    All good

The hub has power and is switched on.

  • Power light: off

    Fault

The hub is not powered on.

    What to do

    1. Check the wires and the wall socket. Make sure all the wires are connected and that the hub is switched on at the wall.
    2. Press the power button. Press the power button at the back of the router to turn it on.
  • Power light: solid red

    Fault

Red while the hub is powering on is normal and passes on its own. Red for longer than five minutes means a system failure.

    What to do

    1. Give it five minutes first. A red power light in the first few minutes after switching on is expected. Only treat it as a fault if it is still red after five minutes.
    2. Factory reset the router. If it is still red after five minutes, factory reset the device.
  • Internet light: solid white

    All good

The router is connected to the internet.

  • Internet light: flashing white

    Normal

The router is in the middle of connecting to the internet.

  • Internet light: flashing red

    Needs a look

The router is trying to connect. Vodafone treats this as a problem only once it has gone on for longer than five minutes.

    What to do

    1. Check every cable. If it has been flashing red for more than five minutes, check all the cables are connected.
    2. Restart the router. Then restart the router by pressing the power button.
  • Phone light: solid white

    All good

The phone line is working and you can make calls.

  • Phone light: flashing white

    Normal

A call is in progress on the phone connected to the hub.

  • Phone light: solid red

    Needs a look

The hub cannot connect to the voice service. Vodafone documents this state for Vodafone Business customers only.

    What to do

    1. Turn the router off and on again. Switch the router off, wait a moment, and switch it back on.
  • Mobile light: solid white

    All good

The Vodafone Backup Dongle is connected and working. Vodafone documents the Mobile light for Vodafone Pro customers only.

  • Mobile light: flashing red

    Needs a look

The backup dongle is connected but something is wrong with it. Vodafone describes this light as flashing or pulsing red, and documents it for Vodafone Pro customers only.

  • Mobile light: solid red

    Needs a look

The backup dongle is connected but no SIM card is detected. Vodafone documents the Mobile light for Vodafone Pro customers only.

    What to do

    1. Check the SIM. Check that your SIM is inserted correctly.
  • WiFi light: solid white

    All good

Wi-Fi is on and working correctly.

  • WiFi light: pulsing white

    Normal

The hub is pairing a device onto the Wi-Fi.

  • WiFi light: off

    Needs a look

Wi-Fi is switched off, so the hub is broadcasting no network.

Vodafone Ultra Hub

The Ultra Hub has a large front light plus four smaller ones — WiFi, Internet, Phone and Mobile. Green is the healthy colour on this hub, not white, and amber on any of them means something has been switched off rather than broken.

Source: Vodafone — Router lights explained: Vodafone Ultra Hub — checked 2026-08-29.

  • Front light: solid white

    All good

The hub has powered up with no issues.

  • Front light: solid green

    All good

    Pairing finished successfully.

  • Front light: flashing red

    Needs a look

Pairing failed. Vodafone points you at its Broadband Service Test, which needs you to log in to or register for My Vodafone.

  • Front light: flashing purple

    Normal

Pairing is under way. Leave it to finish.

  • Front light: flashing blue

    Normal

The hub is restarting itself. Leave it powered on.

  • Front light: flashing white

    Needs a look

The hub is online through a backup module rather than your normal broadband line.

You are online, but over a mobile backup rather than your broadband line, so from the sofa nothing looks broken. The line itself is still down, and nothing starts until you report it.

Report it to Vodafone — your line is still down
  • Front light: flashing blue and white

    Normal

A firmware update is in progress. Leave the hub powered on.

  • Front light: solid amber

    Needs a look

Wi-Fi has been turned off by a user.

  • Front light: off

    Fault

The hub has no power, or it failed to boot up.

  • WiFi light: solid green

    All good

Wi-Fi is on and working correctly.

  • WiFi light: solid amber

    Needs a look

Wi-Fi has been turned off on the hub.

  • WiFi light: off

    Fault

The hub has no power, or it failed to boot up.

  • Internet light: solid green

    All good

    The internet is connected.

  • Internet light: flashing red

    Fault

The internet connection has failed. Vodafone says to check the broadband backup module, or to get in touch.

Vodafone treats this as a fault, so report it today — not at the weekend. A total loss of service still unfixed two full working days after you report it earns £10.34 for every calendar day it stays broken, and the clock starts when you report.

What you’re owed if it isn’t fixed
  • Internet light: off

    Fault

The hub has no power, or the connection has been lost.

  • Phone light: solid green

    All good

The phone service is connected and ready.

  • Phone light: flashing green

    Normal

A call is in progress on the phone connected to the hub.

  • Phone light: flashing red

    Needs a look

The phone service is not connected.

  • Phone light: off

    Normal

The hub has no power, it failed to boot up, or no phone is connected.

  • Mobile light: solid green

    All good

    The mobile connection is up.

  • Mobile light: flashing red

    Needs a look

There is a connection issue. Vodafone says to check the broadband backup module, or to get in touch.

  • Mobile light: off

    Normal

The hub has no power, it failed to boot up, or no backup dongle is connected.

Vodafone Vox 2.5 broadband router

The Vox 2.5 hides its lights until you swipe a hand over the top of the device — that is Vodafone’s own instruction, and without it the top looks blank. Note the trap on this model: a RED power light is normal and means the power is on. Only a flashing red power light is a fault.

  • Internet light: solid green

    All good

The router is connected to the internet.

  • Internet light: flashing green

    Normal

The router is connecting to the internet. Vodafone describes this light as flashing or pulsing green.

  • Internet light: solid red

    Fault

The router is not connected to the internet.

    What to do

    1. Check all the wires. Check that all the wires are connected.
    2. Restart the router. Then restart the router by pressing the power button.

This light means the hub can’t reach Vodafone’s network. If those steps don’t fix it, the next thing worth knowing is whether it is them or you.

Check whether Vodafone has an outage
  • Internet light: flashing red

    Needs a look

Vodafone describes this as a potential problem while the router is still trying to connect, and shows it as flashing or pulsing red.

    What to do

    1. Check the wires and the wall socket. Check that all the wires are connected and that the router is switched on at the wall.
    2. Reset the router. Then reset the router using the power button.
  • WiFi light: solid green

    All good

The router is connected to the internet and Wi-Fi is active.

  • WiFi light: flashing green

    Normal

The router is establishing a connection using the WPS pairing function. Do not confuse this with a PULSING green Wi-Fi light, which Vodafone documents separately and which means something else entirely.

  • WiFi light: pulsing green

    Normal

No Wi-Fi devices are connected to the router at all. This is a different state from a FLASHING green Wi-Fi light, which means WPS pairing is under way.

  • Power light: solid red

    All good

The power is on. On this model red is the normal power colour, not a warning — it is the flashing red power light that means a problem.

  • Power light: off

    Normal

The power is off, or the light has been disabled in the router’s settings.

  • Power light: pulsing red

    Normal

A system update is in progress. This is a different state from a FLASHING red power light, which means a fault.

  • Power light: flashing red

    Fault

There is a problem. This is the fault state on the power light — a steady red power light is normal, and a pulsing red one is a system update.

    What to do

    1. Check the wires and the wall socket. Check that all the wires are connected and that the router is switched on at the wall.
    2. Reset the router. Then reset the router using the power button.

Vodafone Power Hub

The Power Hub uses the same five-light layout and the same green-is-healthy scheme as the Ultra Hub. On several of its lights, "no light" can simply mean a user has disabled the LEDs rather than that anything is wrong — Vodafone says so explicitly for four of them.

Source: Vodafone — Router lights explained: Power Hub — checked 2026-08-29.

  • Front light: solid white

    All good

The hub has power and is switched on.

  • Front light: flashing red

    Needs a look

Pairing with a booster has failed.

    What to do

    1. Pair the booster again. Try pairing your booster again.
    2. Reboot the Power Hub. If pairing still fails, reboot the Power Hub.
  • Front light: flashing purple

    Normal

Pairing is under way. Leave it to finish.

  • Front light: flashing white

    Needs a look

The hub is online through a backup module, such as a broadband back-up dongle, rather than your normal line.

A user has turned the Wi-Fi off.

    What to do

    1. Press the WiFi button. Press the WiFi button on the hub to turn the Wi-Fi back on.
  • Front light: off

    Normal

The power is off, or a user has disabled the LED.

  • WiFi light: solid green

    All good

The hub is connected to the internet and Wi-Fi is active.

  • WiFi light: solid amber

    Needs a look

Wi-Fi has been turned off on the hub.

    What to do

    1. Press the WiFi button. Press the WiFi button on the hub to turn the Wi-Fi back on.
  • WiFi light: off

    Normal

The power is off, or a user has disabled the LED.

  • Internet light: solid green

    All good

The hub is connected to the internet.

  • Internet light: flashing red

    Fault

The hub is not connected to the internet.

This light means the hub can’t reach Vodafone’s network. If those steps don’t fix it, the next thing worth knowing is whether it is them or you.

The power is off, or no back-up dongle is connected.

Vodafone 5G Hub

The 5G Hub is a mobile-network router, so its main light reports signal strength rather than a broadband connection: blue shades mean it is on 5G, green shades mean 4G, and yellow means the signal is very poor. Vodafone gives no flashing or steady pattern for any row on this hub, so none is stated here.

Source: Vodafone — Router lights explained: 5G Hub — checked 2026-08-29.

  • Signal strength light: light blue

    All good

The hub has a strong 5G signal.

  • Signal strength light: medium blue

    All good

The hub has a normal 5G signal.

  • Signal strength light: dark blue

    Normal

A medium 5G signal. Vodafone’s own ordering on this table runs strong, normal, then medium, so medium is the weakest of the three blues.

  • Signal strength light: light green

    All good

A strong 4G signal — the hub is on 4G rather than 5G.

  • Signal strength light: medium green

    All good

A normal 4G signal — the hub is on 4G rather than 5G.

  • Signal strength light: dark green

    Normal

A medium 4G signal, the weakest of the three greens on Vodafone’s ordering — the hub is on 4G rather than 5G.

  • Signal strength light: yellow

    Needs a look

The hub has a very poor signal.

  • System light: white

    All good

    The system is working normally.

  • System light: red

    Needs a look

Vodafone lists five different causes for this one light and does not separate them: an abnormal system startup, a Wi-Fi error, a SIM error, no network, or the antenna rotating.

Vodafone 5G Outdoor Hub

The 5G Outdoor Hub has three lights in a column on its side, labelled SYS, 5G and 4G on the casing. Vodafone’s own table for the 4G light contradicts itself, so one of its rows is deliberately not reproduced here — see the note at the top of this file.

Source: Vodafone — Router lights explained: 5G Outdoor Hub — checked 2026-08-29.

  • System light: red

    Normal

    The device is starting up.

  • System light: blue

    All good

The device is powered up and running.

  • System light: flashing red

    Normal

The equipment is upgrading. Leave it powered on.

  • 5G light: blue

    All good

The hub is on the 5G network, including where that is a non-standalone (NSA) 5G network carried over 4G infrastructure.

  • 5G light: off

    Normal

The hub has no 5G network connection.

  • 4G light: off

    Normal

The hub has no 4G network connection.

Still not fixed? What you’re owed

If the light points at a fault on Vodafone’s side, report it today. Under Ofcom’s automatic compensation scheme a total loss of service that still isn’t fixed 2 full working days after you report it earns £10.34 for every calendar day it stays broken — and the clock starts when you report it, not when it broke.

Frequently asked questions

What do the lights on a Vodafone router mean?

This page lists every light state Vodafone documents for 6 hub models — 83 states in total — with what each one means and the fix Vodafone gives, where they give one. Identify your model first: colour schemes differ between generations, so the same colour can mean different things on two hubs from the same provider.

How do I know which hub model I have?

It is usually printed on a label on the underside or back of the hub, next to the serial number and Wi-Fi details. If you cannot find it, match the shape and the number of lights against the models below — they are listed with the official page for each, so you can check against Vodafone's own pictures.

My hub light says there is a fault — what do I do?

Work through the steps for your light state below, then restart the hub once, properly: power it off for a full minute and give it up to ten minutes to resync. If it is still wrong after that, check whether Vodafone has an outage before reporting a fault, and report it today either way — the compensation clock starts when you report, not when it broke.

Do I get compensation if my router shows a fault?

Not for the light itself, but for the loss of service behind it. Vodafone is signed up to Ofcom's automatic compensation scheme, so a total loss of service that still isn't fixed 2 full working days after you report it earns £10.34 for each calendar day it stays broken. Report the fault promptly and keep the reference.
